Perry is the father Perry is the child of Laurie Metcalf (actor) and Jeff Perry, a director. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (in flashback) her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. Parents, however, did not want her to pursue acting until she became an adult, fearing the effects of stress. Perry confessed that she wasn't at ease in the stage during high school and began performing for way to get acquainted with new people while at Northwestern University after switching from Boston University. Following her graduation, Perry relocated back to New York to search for television work landing small roles in shows such as Law & Order: Criminal Intent but homesickness brought her back to California and she was able to find acting work. Her mother and she appeared on Broadway as a couple for the play The Other Place, in 2013. Her father was also in the production. Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 with The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a part in 9 episodes of ABC's thriller The Family during 2016. In 2017, Perry had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal which starred her father. Also in 2017, she portrayed a younger version of Mary Cooper on Young Sheldon (a CBS spinoff The Big Bang Theory), portraying her mother in a youthful version. The actress was chosen for the role despite her close familial connection to the character.
